Anniversary Dinner at Truluck’s
Yesterday was our 15th anniversary and we celebrated by going to see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (appropriate as crystal is the theme for the 15th anniversary) and then having dinner at Truluck’s. The movie was enjoyable and the anniversary itself was nice, but this post is really about the restaurant.
I don’t think we’ve ever eaten there before. The atmosphere and service were very nice, though I felt the service was just a bit too “leave you alone” — friendly and helpful, but not quite attentive enough. Earlier in the day I dropped off Marci’s present so they could have it on our table when we arrived, which worked out perfectly.
The food, however, was not what I had hoped. My Hot House Tomato Salad salad was quite good, but I found both of our fish entrees (Grilled Kona Kampachi and Grilled Kona Kampachi) to be too bland. I also ordered a carrot cake, but I didn’t really care for that either. They brought us a small molten chocolate cake for our anniversary which I think was pretty good, though I’m not a big fan of chocolate so it is difficult for me to judge — Marci seemed to like it well enough.
There were a couple of other entrees I had considered (JalapeƱo Salmon and Hot-and-Crunchy Trout), but now I don’t really see myself going back. Oh, well.
After I stopped by Blockbuster to return and exchange some discs, I went to my parents’ to pick up the kids and then went home to sleep through most of the American Idol final competition and finale. Marci stayed awake and periodically woke me to let me see what was going on (though less and less as time went on, until the end).
