Weird day that was. I remember waking up to Beatles song after Beatles song and Lennon song after Lennon song (I used to sleep with the radio on).
When I finally discovered why, I went and woke my mother, who had worked on The Ed Sullivan Show when The Beatles appeared. John was close to her age; a few years older. I remember her reaction to this day. Utter shock.

Finn – Oddly, I don’t remember the day specifically. I remember seeing it on the news and stuff, but nothing about what I was doing. It makes me sad to think that people can be so… I don’t know… misguided? Does that presume too much?

I’m actually headed to a wake in NYC today for Torrie Zito. He did all the string arrangements for the Imagine album and he had some great stories about John Lennon, Yoko and Phil Spector. He was also one of Gia’s uncles. Very sad passing. Very sad anniversary.

B.E. Earl – Very sad indeed. I hope the wake is a comfort to those in attendance.

hello haha narf – In case you, or anyone else, isn’t aware, this is a photo of the Lennon memorial in Central Park at the spot where he was shot. I took it when we were there in 2000.
Edit: Not the exact spot, as it wasn’t in the park, but near the spot.

I was really bummed that I didn’t get to see the Lennon memorial when I was in Central Park last year. Was totally pouring with rain so I gave up and went into the Apple Store to take shelter.

How serendipitous….I was listening to “Imagine” right as I clicked through to your blog!

Hilly – You use “serendipitous” like I do. 🙂 Though I’ve started to replace it with “kismet” on occasion. “Coincidence” just gets boring.

I was in my senior year of high school when I heard the news. It was very sad news to me as I loved music, and especially the Beatles. Double Fantasy had just released and it was played often.
