LeSombre recently asked a question on his blog that led to me deciding to repost this entry from March of 2008. (It also led to the creation of a new category for my blog: Flashback Friday.)
Back around Christmas time I decided to skip my irregularly scheduled — but fairly frequent — hair cut and let my hair grow out for a while. It has been many years since my hair has been more than a couple of inches long. Very soon after that, I also decided that I would let it grow out until after our spring break ski trip, at which point I would shave my head.
Now, I usually get my hair cut fairly short (a “2” on the clippers) and I got it particularly short a summer or two ago (a “1”), but I’ve never “gone all the way” with the clippers and certainly never taken a razor to it — until now.
Below are some before and after pictures — there are more in the album. [Edit: No, there are now just those four.]
Please excuse the quality of the profiles in particular — it’s amazingly difficult to hand-hold a profile shot of yourself, and they looked reasonably good on-camera.

I like it, but a week later I’m not sure if I’m going to keep it shaved (I haven’t so far and it’s pretty close to “1” length already).

Wow… I think it looks much better shaved!!!
But… my fiance shaves his head so I’m a *little* partial lol.
I think it depends on what your comfort level is, but shaved is my vote!

Amber – I like it much better shaved, though this isn’t really a fair comparison as I generally keep it much shorter than in the first pictures. I’m not sure I like it enough shaved to justify the effort of keeping it that way.

The whole time I’m reading this all I’m thinking is, “what did his hair look like in Santa Fe?”
I have the worst memory ever.

Sarah – I’ve been really behind on posting photos this summer — I haven’t finished April yet. I got two events processed this weekend, bringing me up to Santa Fe pics as the next ones to process. Then, you can be reminded. 🙂

While I dig the look, can I suggest not wearing brightly colored shirts like that? The second set looks like a pair of mugshots complete with prison jumpsuit.

kapgar – I see what you mean, though the shirt isn’t as bright as it looks in those photos. It’s actually a burnt orange Texas Longhorns shirt, one of many that I have and wear.

LeSombre – Thanks! I’m thinking I’ll wait for spring to try it again, though.

I completely forgot that I wanted to mention that this was my 300th post! Although, I feel like I should discount a bunch of the early ones that were just meant as RSS updates of my online photo albums. But that’s too much work.

I like both looks. I especially love bald men. I was going to say the same as kapgar.
Congrats on the 300!

kilax – Thanks! Oh, and it occurs to me that I should mention that I don’t normally sport a full beard, either. Sometimes I let it grow in for the winter, but usually I have a Goatee (a Van Dyke, technically).

I’ve REALLY been thinking of a Flashback Friday style thing, because come on. really. I have some GREAT stuff in my archives.
Oh yeah, hair. I like the between look – not long and not shaved.

whall – I agree that you have some gems in your archives.
I like the short look as well, which as you know, is how I normally keep it.

OMG!! That first set looks like a young, modern version of Ulysses S. Grant.
Take a look – http://www.sonofthesouth.net/union-generals/ulysses-s-grant/pictures-ulysses-grant.htm
It’s a COMPLIMENT.
The second set looks like you should probably pay one of those companies that does background checks so that TSA actually lets you get on the plane.
That, too, was a COMPLIMENT. 🙂
