Diet Progress

It’s been about four weeks since I blogged about my Fast Food Diet, and while I’ve done a pretty good job following it most of the time, I certainly didn’t during the cruise.

In the week from the day of that post (which was not actually the beginning of the diet, but that’s OK) to my last weigh-in before the cruise I lost a couple of pounds. But, of course, I was up about five pounds over the week of the cruise. Since then, I’ve managed to lose about six-and-a-half pounds. So I’m only down four pounds in four weeks.

Given that I haven’t used the Wii Fit since before the cruise, haven’t run at all in months, and have hardly biked this year, I feel like I’m doing pretty well. Plus, I’m actually down about ten pounds since Mardi Gras, which was pretty much my high point.

I really need to get back into the groove of exercising. Maybe tomorrow. Or Monday. Or….

So Ren, since I’m doing the same thing (or trying to at least) I thought I would weigh in. (HA!) What counting calories has encouraged me to do is to do something (even if it is just take the dog for walk) when I have run out of calories and I am still wanting to eat something. I was tracking what I ate in January and dropped some 5 pounds or so that had crept on during the holidays. Using lose it! is so much easier than logging my food in any other way. I try to carry my iphone everywhere and log my eating immediately. I also find that using Woody’s trick of splitting your lunch in half and eating the second half later in the afternoon usually results in lower weight unless I have sabotaged myself with other food. In this way, I haven’t had to avoid Pei Wei on my “diet.” I immediately portion off my half and then sometimes just eat the second half for dinner. With a calorie count of 550 calories per 100 grams and a daily limit of 1440, once you add the brown rice, I can easily consume half my calories in one sitting. Thanks for tuning me into Lose It!

Suzi – I do the same thing at Pei Wei (well, Fire Bowl, usually, I’ve only been to Pei Wei once recently). I noticed that Restaurants app only listed about 550 calories for most Pei Wei dishes, as did the Pei Wei web site. I finally found that an order is two servings, so clearly you’re supposed to split it in half. 🙂

Oh no – does that mean that I’m really eating twice the calories in one day? Crap! I feel like I am doing ok with the tracking calories but sometimes I think I’m missing a support system. Maybe I’ll bug your blog for support. . .

Suzi – Well, only if you’re eating Pei Wei all day. 🙂

Feel free to find your support here — I’m completely okay with that.

I’ve lost no weight so far this week, even though I’ve been meeting my calorie goals. I hope it’s just a temporary plateau before another round of good loss. At least I haven’t gained any either.

I read about your fast food diet! Interesting post! I was just telling a coworker about how I count calories as well, so if I wanted to, I could just eat fast food all day.

Four pounds in four weeks is great! Especially since you haven’t been as active as before. I am not sure if you’ve already discussed this, but do you plan to get back into running and biking? 🙂

I definitely plan to get started with both running and biking again in the near future. I keep wanting to run in the morning, but I don’t like running in the dark and by the time it gets light enough I don’t have time before taking the kids to school. I blame the early Daylight Saving Time change, though I guess we’re now past that point.

I’m not sure what’s going on with the biking. My wife and I keep talking about going for a Sunday morning bike ride, but it just isn’t happening. This Sunday being Easter makes it unlikely that things will get started this weekend, but maybe next weekend.
